Sky Bet Championship side Brentford are interested in signing Dijon FCO  goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson in the summer, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The West London club are exploring the option of signing another goalkeeper in the summer, with regular shot-stopper Daniel Bentley facing an uncertain future at Griffin Park having rejected new contract offers, with his current deal expiring at the end of next season.

Bentley has been a regular for Brentford since signing from Southend United in 2016, but with just 18 months left on his current deal at Griffin Park, the club may look to sell him in the summer rather than running the risk of letting him leave on a free transfer come the end of next year.

The Bees made enquiries about Runarsson in January after impressing for French Ligue 1 side Dijon - the 23-year old has made 15 league starts for the club this season since signing from Nordsjaelland in the summer.

But reports claim that Thomas Frank's men will look to make a summer move for Runarsson, who was part of the Iceland World Cup squad in the summer, and has made five appearances for the national side.

Brentford have endured a turbulent time since the departure of Dean Smith in October - the Bees currently sit 18th in the Sky Bet Championship table after winning three of their last four league games.

The Verdict

This is a really surprising development as Bentley has been such a good player in goal for Brentford over the last few years.

There is no doubting that Runarsson looks to be a really promising player on paper, having represented his country numerous times quite early on in his career.

It's going to be an interesting one, as I'm sure Brentford fans would want Bentley to sign a new deal - he has made a few mistakes this season, but on the whole, he's a great, young player.
