Brentford have shown their interest in Barnsley attacker Jacob Brown, as they line up a potential move for the forward, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The writer confirmed the Bees' interest in the 21-year-old via Twitter, also reporting that any deal for Brown would be a permanent one as opposed to a loan.

The forward has also been linked with three other Championship clubs, according to BBC Sheffield's Andy Giddings.

Brown has been one of the Tykes' bright sparks this season, notching up eight assists in 23 Championship appearances. That figure ranks him fourth in the league.

QUIZ: Do you know where these 15 ex-Brentford players are playing now?

The 21-year-old has come through the Barnsley academy, and made his first-team debut for the Tykes in the 2016-17 season, eventually establishing himself in the side last term as Barnsley won promotion from League One.

Brentford currently sit in 5th place in the Championship standings after 29 games played, and the club will be looking for some fresh faces to help with their promotion bid.

The Bees have made just the one signing so far this January, with striker Halil Dervisoglu joining the club from Sparta Rotterdam for a fee of £2.7 million.

The Verdict

Brentford have stepped up their interest in Brown when it was least expected, and do not have much time left to get a deal over the line if the club is serious about this move.

Brown has been excellent this season for Barnsley, and a move to a club near the top of the table may prove to be too good to turn down. It remains to be seen when Brentford will make a formal approach.

The 21-year-old also offers different options in attack, as he can play as a forward, or on either wing if needed.
