According to Sky Sports News, Brentford defender Tom Field is poised to leave the club on a loan deal.

Bradford City are expected to sign Tom Field on a loan deal until January 2018 today, Sky sources understand.

Bradford have been forced into the market for a new left back after a freak injury to Adam Chicksen on the weekend.

Making his competitive debut for the Bantams following his arrival from Charlton Athletic this summer, Chicksen was involved in a collision with Oliver Turton of Blackpool during Bradford's 2-1 win.

After a nine minute delay to the match, Chicksen was stretchered off with oxygen and rushed to hospital for tests on his neck.

The 25-year-old could be set for a length spell on the sidelines, though, as initial tests showed a fractured cheek bone.

As a result of this injury, Bradford City now need to step up their efforts to find defensive cover.

It looks like the Bantams will complete a move for Tom Field today.

The 20-year-old is also a left back but he is behind Rico Henry in the pecking order at Griffin Park.

After playing fourteen games for the West London outfit last summer, Field will sign a five month loan deal with Bradford to gain some regular playing experience in League One.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international has three senior goals to his name, including a brace in the FA Cup against Eastleigh.

The Verdict

This move is ideal for all parties.

Bradford are desperate to find a left back to cover Adam Chicksen and Tom Field fits the bill as the perfect short-term solution.

Brentford are unlikely to be able to offer their young full back much game time with Rico Henry as the established starter and they will benefit in the long-term if he gets valuable game experience elsewhere.

And Tom Field will challenge himself in a new environment, with new team mates, a new set of fans and in a competitive senior league.
