Brentford are continuing to try and prize Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper David Raya away from Ewood Park as they seek a replacement for Daniel Bentley.

The Bees are immediately in the hunt for a new stopper following the sale of Bentley to the Bees this weekend, and according to Alan Nixon, manager Thomas Frank has identified Raya as the ideal replacement for the impressive Bentley.

Raya has been a regular for Rovers under Tony Mowbray, making the number one spot his own as the Lancashire club have taken back to life in the Championship with relative ease following promotion from League One last year.

However, the loss of Raya would represent a bitter blow to Blackburn and Mowbray as they look to improve the squad ahead of the coming campaign.

The 23-year-old has worked his way through the ranks at Ewood Park ever since  a loan spell in non-league with Southport, and has gone on to impress the onlooking Rovers fans, who have been impressed with his development in the last couple of seasons in particular.

For Brentford, they will be desperate to land a new 'keeper following the sale of Bentley, who joined Bristol City for an undisclosed fee just yesterday.

The Verdict

Raya would represent the ideal replacement for Bentley when you look at it on paper.

At 23, he has plenty of time to improve further and would slot in nicely at a club like Brentford, who have built a reputation in the last few years of being a club where players can develop their craft and potentially move on to bigger and better things.

Bentley is a big loss for the Bees, but Raya is an adequate replacement who would no doubt thrive at Griffin Park.
