Brentford attacking midfielder Sergi Canos has signed a new four-year deal with the club, keeping him in West London until 2023.
The Bees confirmed the news on Wednesday afternoon on their official Twitter account, handing a boost to Thomas Frank as he looks to guide the club into the Premier League.
Canos made the move to Brentford from Norwich City in the January transfer window of 2017 for just over £2.5million and he has gone on to be an integral squad member, making 148 appearances, scoring 23 goals and assisting 21 more.
He has been an ever-present in the side this season too, racking up three assists in their 11 Championship clashes so far.
On the whole, however, it has been a disappointing start to the campaign for Frank and his side, sat in 17th place and with just nine goals to their name – seven of which have been scored by Ollie Watkins.
Last weekend’s defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground ensured that they went into the international break off the back of a loss, and will be eager to rectify that against Millwall in two weeks time.
They may not be in brilliant form so far, but this is a great piece of news for the fans and the rest of the squad.
Canos has been consistently creative since coming into the club two and a half years ago, so tying him down to a long-term deal could work wonders for morale.
However, it is up to Frank to harness that feel-good factor and get his side playing to the levels he knows they can.
