Brentford have completed the signing of winger Joel Valencia on a four-year deal for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.8m.

The 24-year-old arrives from Polish side Piast Gliwice, after starring in a memorable campaign for the side as they won the title for the first time.

He weighed in with six goals and registered the same number of assists in what was a historic year for the club, with Valencia's performances earning him the Player of the Year award.

However, he has opted for a new challenge now, with the Bees announcing his signing on their official site this afternoon and manager Thomas Frank outlined exactly what the Ecuadorian will bring to the team.

"He produced goals and assists and also created lots of other chances. His output in terms of goals and assist can be even higher and he will develop as a player with us. He is a player with incredibly quick feet and he will excite Brenford fans. His one-on-one attacking is superb."

The Verdict

This is a very intriguing buy from the Bees who have shown over the years that they are excellent when it comes to recruitment.

Valencia played a vital role in what was a remarkable season for his club in the past year and he clearly has a lot of talent.

Now, it's about transferring that to the Championship, which will be difficult given the speed and intensity of the game in England.

However, Brentford clearly feel he will be able to cope and this could turn out to be yet another shrewd signing by the Bees.
