Brentford have signed Paris Maghoma from Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee.

Maghoma, 18, becomes Brentford's first signing of the transfer window.

The central-midfielder is a product of the Spurs academy and has been a feature for England at youth level. He's played 11 times for Spurs in the Premier League 2 this season, scoring once.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, Maghoma made a handful of first-team appearances in pre-season friendlies and in the EFL Trophy too, and was a key feature of Tottenham's FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League campaigns this season.

He'll initially link up with Brentford B. The Bees have been building their unique, European-style B team since it's formation in May 2016.

They're philosophy is to pick players from abroad, mostly Scandinavian countries, and to welcome players from the 'bigger clubs' in England who may have been facing release or seek new challenges.

Brentford B don't compete in a recognised league, and instead travel throughout the UK and Europe, putting themselves against some of the best B teams and youth academies out there, as well as playing first-teams - later this month, they're due to fly to Portugal where they'll face FC Seoul of South Korea and FC Astana of Kazakhstan.

The verdict

Brentford are revolutionising the way that young players are produced and developed, and expect Maghoma to slot into that mould and excel.

It's become a prestigious academy to get into and only the best are selected - expect big things from Maghoma in the future, and expect to see him knocking on the door of Thomas Frank's first-team in the future.
