Brentford will discover this morning whether star striker, Lasse Vibe, will be available ahead of Saturday’s derby with local rivals Queens Park Rangers.
The Danish forward suffered a knock to his ankle in Easter Monday’s draw with Barnsley, and hasn’t trained with the first team squad this week.
Manager Dean Smith, said to FLW reporter Adam Simeoni at Thursday’s press conference: ‘Lasse Vibe has not trained with us yet, we’ll take another look at him in the morning (Friday) and make a decision from there.’
The Dane’s absence would be a big loss to the Bees, who are looking to end the season strongly after securing their place in the division next season.
Smith has urged his players not to take their foot off the gas, and his side have won 4 of their last 6 outings.
Brentford finished 9th last season, and the former Walsall boss has challenged his players to better the 65 points they collected in the previous campaign.
‘It was a challenge I put to the players 4 or 5 games ago’ said the boss. ‘The boys responded well, and they’ve certainly risen to the challenge’.
Vibe’s possible loss will be a blow to Brentford’s ambitions, and Smith offered an update on the rest of his squad.
‘Maxime (Colin) is fit and available for selection. Andreas (Bjelland) is not ready to go straight in just yet. (Alan) McCormack is out, but Nico Yennaris is back. It’s too early for Josh Mceachran, but he is back on the grass’.
The Bees face QPR at Griffin Park on Saturday, before a trip to other local rival, Fulham, next weekend.
