Brentford boss Thomas Frank has claimed that he can’t imagine a more difficult away ground to go this season than Elland Road after their 1-0 away defeat at the hands of Leeds United.

The Bees traveled to west Yorkshire for their fourth Championship game of the season and produced a solid defensive performance but were beaten as Eddie Nketiah netted an 81st-minute winner for Leeds.

The result keeps Marcelo Bielsa’s side unbeaten and at the top of the league, while Brentford drop to 18th.

Speaking to BBC Radio London after the game, Frank provided his verdict on the midweek Championship tie.

He said: “The first half was a top away performance where we pressed high, caused them problems and created opportunities. We did everything more or less right.

"Second half, they put more pressure on us and we were not good enough to keep the ball. We had big desire defending, good organisation and a high line.

"We got through the most stormy parts of the second half and you thought our opportunities would start to come. And then they scored a goal.

"I can't imagine, going forward, a more difficult away ground to go to than this one.”

There is no respite for the Bees as they travel to the Valley to face another unbeaten side, Charlton Athletic, on Saturday.

Leeds, meanwhile, face a trip to bottom-of-the-league Stoke City, who have just one point from four games.

The Verdict

This will likely be music to the ears of Bielsa, his squad, and the fans as Frank’s comments show that Elland Road is on its way to becoming a fortress this season.

There is understood to have been an attendance of over 35,000 yesterday and if the Whites can continue to make it a horrible place for away teams to visit they should be able to keep getting results and be well set for their promotion push.

Nketiah’s late winner was a vital goal as it allows Leeds to keep their momentum going as they head into an extremely winnable game against Stoke.
