Speaking to Get West London, Brentford manager, Dean Smith, has confirmed that he is expecting Maxime Colin to return for pre-season, and that there has been no discussion about right-back leaving the club this summer.

Doubt had been cast over Colin’s future at Griffin Park earlier this summer when Brentford opted to sign Henrik Dalsgaard, leaving Smith with three first-team right-backs at his disposal ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

However, despite Brentford currently heading into pre-season with Colin, Dalsgaard and Josh Clarke on the books, Smith is not expecting the former to be departing, he said: “I'm expecting Maxime back for pre-season training. There's been no discussion on Maxime leaving the club, that's for sure.”

Smith also spoke about the competition for places at Griffin Park, following Dalsgaard’s arrival, he continued: “He'll be seen in our eyes as a right back or a right wing back if we play a three. He's competition with Maxime Colin and Josh Clarke.”

Colin has been with Brentford since the summer of 2015, when he signed from Anderlecht, and has been impressive during his two seasons with the Bees in the Championship.

The 25-year old made 21 Championship appearances during his first 12-months with Brentford, before becoming a much more influential figure at Griffin Park in the last year.

The Frenchman featured on 40 occasions across all competitions, including 38 times in the league, as Brentford finished the Championship season tenth.
