Brentford have announced via their official website that full-back Rico Henry has undergone successful knee surgery, and will now begin the road to rehabilitation.

The former Walsall man picked up the injury in September’s 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough, and underwent the procedure at the end of October.

The England U-20 international had recently returned from a shoulder injury that had kept him sidelined for many months, and had begun to make the left-back berth at Griffin Park his own.

Brentford beat off competition from a host of Championship sides to snap the player up from Walsall last year, with manager Dean Smith well aware of the players talents, having worked with the youngster whilst in charge of the Saddlers.

Henry is set for an extended period on the sidelines, with no timescale being put upon the players return.

Brentford’s Head of Medical Neil Greig said: “Rico’s surgery was deemed successful and he has now begun the process of restoring normal daily function.”

“Rico’s commitment in these early stages of his recovery have been excellent, and we have no doubt that his attitude will lead to a successful return to action.”

The Verdict

Getting Henry fit following his shoulder problems was a real boost to the Bees, so his knee injury will come as a real disappointment to all associated with the club.

The 20-year-old is one of the most promising defenders in the Football League, and fans will hope the player will return from his injury stronger than ever, as the Bees chase promotion to the Premier League.

Such injuries can be a real test of a players mental strength and character, and if Henry comes through the ordeal unscathed, he could really improve his mentality as a player.

The player is full of talent, and will undoubtedly realise his potential upon his return.
