Southampton recently parted ways with manager Mark Hughes as they flirt dangerously with a relegation battle.

The Saints had seemingly put their woes behind them in recent years, but the line between success and failure is fine and following their best ever Premier League season, they've been plunged back into the lower reaches.

The new boss will get time to turn things around, he'll have a full transfer window in which to do business and is also likely to have a pot of money with which to save their skin.

There's surely three sides worse than the Saints in the top flight, but can they make the right moves to bolster their squad and move forward under a new manager?

If they're going to be a success, we think they should be looking at these Championship stars.

They're desperately light up front and need creativity and guile. That means they'll have to pay the big bucks on a striker, not just a fox in the box but a creative player too.

Ollie Watkins would fit the bill a treat. He's from Exeter, so would perhaps like a move closer to home and he's a real talent.

He's prime for the step up and would bring the spark back to the forward line.

If they're able to spend, they could also do with Nick Powell from Wigan.

Powell is still young enough to be a big success and he might be an investment for the future.

However, he would certainly be vital to the Saints midfield. He's creative, he likes to get on the ball and can bring others into play.

There's clearly a problem at the back for the Saints, they've failed to win any of their last 12 games and have kept just three clean sheets in that time.

They need a powerful centre half, someone who can organise the defence and lead by example.

We think that Craig Dawson might be that player. He wanted out of West Brom in the summer and surely he'd be the right man to shore up that leaky back four.
