Brentford's star striker Ollie Watkins has said he is fully focused on helping the team achieve a successful season, amid speculation linking the 24-year-old with a move elsewhere.

The forward has had his best season to date in his career, with his 17 league goals putting him second in the Championship top scorers' charts.

Although more suited to the wing or the number 10 position, Thomas Frank converted Watkins to the club's first-choice centre-forward at the start of the campaign after Neal Maupay's summer departure, and it has paid dividends.

His excellent form in front of goal has drawn interest from a handful of Premier League clubs, with Crystal Palace and Sheffield United both monitoring the forward during the transfer window.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Watkins addressed the speculation surrounding him, saying it is proof that he is doing all the right things this campaign for Brentford.

"When you're doing well, there's always going to be some talk and interest around you. It means they're enjoying what you're doing on the pitch, and that's a nice feeling," he said.

"I've just got to keep focused on my game and help the team to try and do something special this year."

When asked if he was definitely staying put at Brentford this January, Watkins simply said he was "not going anywhere."

The forward has scored 40 goals in two-and-a-half seasons at Griffin Park so far.

The Verdict

Ollie Watkins seems focused on trying to achieve success with Brentford this season, which is their last at Griffin Park ahead of the upcoming move to the new Brentford Community Stadium.

The club will not be willing to let their star player leave during this window, especially with a lack of strikers available at present. According to transfermarkt, Watkins has three-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal.

The 24-year-old wants to finish what the team have started this season, and the ideal scenario would be to help the club achieve promotion to the Premier League.
