Ollie Watkins has said that Brentford will "definitely" be near the top of the table come the end of the Championship season.

The Bees currently sit in third place in the league, with 43 points from their 26 games, and have shown themselves to be one of the best footballing sides in the Championship.

The aim of the club this season is to make the play-offs, and Thomas Frank's side are well on their way to doing so. Brentford last made it into the Championship's top six in 2014-15.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Brentford's 17-goal striker Ollie Watkins has said the dressing room all aspire to be in the top flight come next season.

"All the lads secretly dream about it [Premier League]. We've just got to keep focused and take each game as it comes."

With Brentford's good form showing no signs of letting up, the 24-year-old said that the team back themselves to be in the same position as they are now come the end of the campaign.

"We'll definitely be up there at the end of the season and that's talking from the point of view of the team, because I think we all feel confident and have belief in our own ability."

The 2019-20 season is a poignant moment in Brentford's 130-year history, as the club leaves Griffin Park after 116 years to move to the 17,250 capacity Brentford Community Stadium in nearby Kew Bridge.

"Everyone's ready for the next step - moving into the new stadium - and it shows what the club is doing," Watkins said.

The forward also added that delivering Premier League football for the club's first season at the new stadium should be a big incentive.

"Hopefully we can move into the ground and be a Premier League team next year."

The Verdict

It is clear to see that the team are confident in their ability to remain in the play-offs until the end of the season, and have shown thus far that they are more than capable of doing so.

It would be an ideal scenario to move to the new stadium as a Premier League side, but in order to have a good chance of doing that, Thomas Frank's side must remain consistent for the second half of the season and not falter.
