Brentford midfielder Sergi Canos took to Instagram yesterday, after the Spaniard underwent knee surgery.

Sergi Canos picked up a serious knee injury in his side’s 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest earlier this month, and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery yesterday - he posted this message yesterday:

The 22-year-old had played in every game of Brentford’s Championship campaign leading up the trip to Forest, and his injury dealt a huge blow to the player and to his manager, Thomas Frank.

But Frank showed his loyalty to the player by offering him a new long-term deal just days after his injury, which will keep him at the club until 2023.

Canos was involved with the Barcelona youth set-up before moving to England to join Liverpool’s.

He made one appearance for Klopp’s Liverpool, before joining Brentford on-loan for the 2015/16 Championship season.

Canos was a hit at Griffin Park and next season it was Norwich City who snapped him up, but after an uninspiring season at Carrow Road, Brentford moved to sign the Spaniard on a permanent deal.

Since then he’s featured almost 150 times for the Bees, scoring 23 goals.

The fans at Griffin Park are hugely fond of Canos - his speed and trickery proved a huge outlet for his side in the earlier parts of the season, and he’ll be sorely missed by his teammates and fans.

In his absence though, Brentford have managed to win three-straight games in the Championship, and find themselves 12th in the table after a fine 3-1 win at Loftus Road on Monday night.

His return date is unknown, though it’s though that Canos won’t feature again for Brentford this season.
