A late Andreas Weimann header maintained Bristol City's unbeaten away record in the Championship this season as the Robins drew 1-1 with Brentford at Griffin Park on Wednesday night.

Josh Dasilva had earlier given the hosts the lead just after the hour mark with a stunning left-footed effort which found the top corner.

However, City bounced back, with Kasey Palmer's excellent looping delivery finding its way to the unmarked Weimann, who cushioned his header into the bottom corner.

So the spoils would be shared, as the result lifts Bristol City into seventh place and leaves Thomas Frank's men in 17th ahead of the weekend fixtures.

The only change from either sides’ weekend exploits came in the Brentford midfield, where Mathias Jensen dropped to the bench, replaced by summer signing Dasilva.

The early stages of the clash passed largely without event, although both teams were clearly unwilling to settle for just a point.

With Bristol City arriving with an unbeaten away record in the league this season, they were not going to be intimidated with Palmer bursting forward from midfield on more than one occasion, threatening to create.

For Brentford, it was on the wings where they threatened. Full-backs barrelled forward. Rico Henry a menace in the final third for the Bees, executing a mazy run and pass to set-up Sunday’s hat-trick hero Ollie Watkins, only for the striker to fluff his lines at the vital moment.

But the best chance of the half fell to the visitors, and it came gift-wrapped by Henry, playing a sloppy pass straight to the feet of Robins striker Antoine Semenyo.

The academy graduate played a simple pass to Weimann who lofted a through ball to Palmer. With what felt like an eternity to pick his shot, the former Chelsea man eventually settled on the bottom-right corner. But Raya telegrammed it, pulling off an excellent save to ensure that it remained 0-0.

The second 45 started with a flash. A double substitution for the visitors, with Famara Diedhiou and Niclas Eliasson both introduced, but both sides had clearly been told to up the ante in attack by their respective managers.

Diedhiou nearly found himself slipped through on goal by Josh Brownhill straight away, only for Julien Jeanvier to smother the opportunity, before Sergi Canos tested Bentley from range.

The fomer Brentford man then pulled of an excellent stop from right-back Christian Norgaard, diving to palm away his wicked drive from the top-right corner, making amends for an appalling dropped cross seconds earlier.

But when the goal came there was nothing he could do. Measured to perfection, Dasilva took one touch before curling an inch perfect, looping, curling shot past the 'keeper and into the top-left corner.

For a while it only looked like Brentford would score again, with the creativity seemingly sapped from the legs of the visitors, and the Bees thriving on the counter attack

But they could not kill the game off and four minutes from time, and, with their seven-game unbeaten away record in the back of their minds, Lee Johnson's men found an equaliser.

The lively Palmer dug out an inch-perfect cross from the right-hand side. And with Weimann drifting into the centre of the box unnoticed, there was only ever one likely outcome, with the striker cushioning his header into the bottom corner to ensure the points would be shared and the streak stretched to eight matches.
