Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal of the game at Griffin Park on Saturday afternoon as Leicester City edged into the fifth round of the FA Cup thanks to a 1-0 win against Brentford.

The game was barely three minutes old when Leicester snuck in front, and it was all a tad too easy for them. A raking pass from Dennis Praet found incumbent full-back James Justin, one of nine changes for the Foxes, and his cross made it a simple task for Iheanacho, tapping home at the back post.

Both Praet and Ayoze Perez tried their luck in the early stages as well as Brentford allowed their visitors plenty of space.

Gradually, though, Thomas Frank's young side grew in confidence. Having made nine changes themselves ahead of their crucial midweek clash with Nottingham Forest in the second tier, it was no real surprise to see them start slowly.

With Emiliano Marcondes beginning to have more of an influence, Brentford started to forge chances of their own.

The attacking midfielder looks to be the one who will carry on the attacking torch in West London for the club in the future with some inteligent touches and clever flicks reminding everyone of his potential and bringing cheers of approval from the watching home fans.

However, he could not control his shot after finding space in the Leicester box at the end of a flowing move towards the end of the first-half, lashing harmlessly into the side-netting on 15 minutes.

Perez wasted a great chance just before the break after being released by Iheanacho too, Luke Daniels equal to the Spaniards well struck shot to ensure his side only went in at half-time with the one goal deficit.

With nothing now to lose, Brentford started the second half with the bit between their teeth - and unsurprisingly it was Marcondes at the heart of it all.

On the hour mark, he peeled off onto the left-hand side ofthe penalty area. Collecting the ball, he teased a cross to the edge of the six-yard box where Joel Valencia arrived on the scene.

The summer signing connected with a deft flick, but saw his shot glide agonisingly onto the inside of the left-hand post, where Christian Fuchs was able to clear.

Brentford continued to press in the early stages, but energy gradually started to fade on both sides. It began to look more and more like a result which both sides were happy to take.

The Bees' second string had performed admirably against strong opposition, keeping moral high in the process, whilst Leicester proceed in the cup with a weakened team.

A flurry of activity from Frank's side saw them nearly draw level twice. First, Luka Racic saw a well volleyed shot from a Marcondes corner tipped over by Ward before Mbeumo slotted a lofted ball home smartly, only to be greeted by the offside flag.

But it was not to be for the hosts. Their youthful side were simply bettered by a strong top-flight outfit. The focus can now revert to what is a crucial clash with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
