Nottingham Forest midfielder Brennan Johnson has expressed his delight at signing a new long-term deal on Trentside.

The 18-year-old has recently put pen to paper on a new contract at the City Ground, with the young midfielder establishing himself as a hugely exciting prospect in the early stages of the season.

Johnson made his senior debut for the Reds in their 2-1 opening day defeat to West Bromwich Albion, and has since featured in the Carabao Cup against Fleetwood Town and Derby County.

The midfielder has also impressed on the international stage, scoring on his debut for the Wales under-21 side. Gareth Southgate is reportedly keen to call him up to the England set-up in the future.

Johnson is tipped for big things after establishing himself as an important player under Sabri Lamouchi, and the youngster is likely to be given his chance to shine once more as the Reds prepare to take on Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Fresh off the back of signing his new long-term deal, Johnson spoke to BBC Radio Nottingham after putting pen to paper, admitting that it's an "unbelievable" feeling.

He said: "It means loads to me. Being from Nottingham, Forest is all I have known, so trying to be in that first-team is always something that I've always wanted to be a part of.

"Hopefully I can keep pushing on. This season has been unbelievable for me - the first-team is a different from another level to the academy - but you don't realise how good the fans are until you get into the first-team.

"From the first day with the new manager, you could tell that his aspirations were so good, so hopefully the performances keep coming and we can keep doing well in the league."

After a 1-0 win over Barnsley at the weekend, the Reds are up to sixth in the Sky Bet Championship table - they travel to Stoke City on Friday night, after facing Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Verdict

It's a huge piece of business and a massive statement of intent to tie Johnson down to a new deal - he has been excellent in the games he has played in.

He is very energetic, isn't scared to put a tackle in, and it's clear that Lamouchi rates him really highly indeed.

After what happened with Arvin Appiah in the summer, keeping one of their homegrown stars at the club for years to come will come as a relief to Forest fans.
