Quizzed by one of the fans on the recent speculation on Twitter, Benham replied on Twitter with two words, ‘’not true’’.

The comment comes amid reported interest from Hull City in the 24-year-old, and the Tigers have already had a bid rejected for the striker.

And with the cash being available to spend, Steve Bruce confirmed that two new faces are expected at the KC Stadium soon, even though he refused to reveal if the Bees’ striker was one of them.

He said to the Hull Daily Mail, "I can assure supporters we are doing our best to make sure when the season starts we'll have a squad capable of getting to where we want to be.

"We're close to one or two things and let's hope we can get them done."

But the Yorkshire team continues to see some of the key players depart after their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship, including James Chester and Robbie Brady who moved to West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City respectively. Abel Hernandez might well be next on the departure list.

Gray joined Brenford in 2014 after impressing with Luton Town for two years, and he quickly adapted to life at his new club, scoring 18 goals in 46 games he started in all competitions last season.

Hull will hope to capture the highly-rated talent in time for the new campaign, which starts against Huddersfield on 8 August.
