Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he isn't too hopeful of being able to land winger Oli Burke on a permanent deal in the summer.

In a report by the Sunday Post, the Bhoys manager was speaking openly about Burke, but admitted that the Baggies' asking price could just be too much for the Scottish giants to muster up.

“It would be great for Celtic, but the reality is that the improvements he will make here over the course of the next six months will probably excite West Brom. Then if they get promoted his wages probably change anyway.

“They help us for now, and we help them. You are getting in a big talent, but the likelihood is, that type of player fits around the core of the boys that are here.

“It may well be too much (to keep him) but all you can do is improve and develop him and see what happens.” Rodgers added.

Burke will be hoping to impress in the remaining part of the season after seeing his career ground to a halt somewhat following a move away from Nottingham Forest a few years back to RB Leipzig.

His time in Germany was not without it's ups, but ultimately he failed to leave a huge impression before making a big money move back to England with the Baggies, where again, he has so far failed to impress.

West Brom manager Darren Moore will be keen to see Burke show the form which shot him into the public eye initially, and he will know if he does regain that form then the Baggies could have quite the player on their hands upon his return.

The Verdict

It's not surprising this really, given the amount Albion paid for him initially.

Burke has quality, he just needs to show it, and it would be a shame to see him move to Scotland after not offering much here in England.
