Danny Cowley set up his Huddersfield side in a 4-1-4-1 against West Brom with Fraizer Campbell upfront and top scorer, Karlan Grant, on the left flank.

You can see the lineup below. This was Cowley's second match coaching Huddersfield, who sit bottom of the Championship without a win. Against 4th placed West Brom, they eventually lost 4-2 at the Hawthorns.

Huddersfield struggled to create or retain possession and despite being pretty defensive still conceded four goals. Out of possession they sat in a pretty deep low block. They left quite a lot of space between their midfield and defensive with Hogg having a lot of space to either side of him. Bilic's West Brom found it quite easy to penetrate and find space within the block.

Meanwhile, Campbell was isolated at front. Once they won the ball they struggled to transition into attack, usually one of the wingers just trying to run at the defence with not much in front of them.

They sat back and didn't apply a press to the West Brom defenders and two of the goals they conceded came from not enough protection in front of the centre-halves. As well as some individual players. Such as Kongolo being beaten too easily one-vs-one to allow Matt Phillips to get to the byline. They just struggled overall to win duels and collisions, which is a sign of a team low on confidence.

West Brom took 17 shots to Huddersfield's 5. Huddersfield created 0.57 expected goals so were just good at converting the very few chances they made. Both of which were good goals with good vision from the assister.

Huddersfield struggled to keep the ball and deal with the press. In possession, they weren't very proactive. Their average possession lasted 9 seconds. They only held the ball for more than 20 seconds nine times (10.1% of the time) and none of their possessions laster longer than 45 seconds. The biggest passing combination between players was Hogg passing to Hadergjonaj at right-back, making that pass nine times.

Cowley has lost his opening games and Huddersfield have lost their last 6 league matches overall. This team isn't one without quality. But, they lacked energy and confidence. They didn't look like a team that believed they could win.

Although they conceded a lot of chances and four goals, two came from corners and the other two were from cutbacks which could have been prevented. Huddersfield may not have enjoyed the new manager bounce yet, but the Cowley brothers could still turn it around, but right now it feels like it's the players who need to step up and demand better.
