Wigan Athletic goalkeeper David Marshall pulled off heroics as his side recorded a 3-0 win over Reading, pulling off a stunning triple save to help the side to a vital clean sheet on their hunt for survival.
Paul Cook’s men have been toiling in the bottom three for the majority of the season but were given a massive boost in their battle to stave off the drop to League One when they recorded back-to-back wins on Wednesday night, building on their solid 1-0 win over Millwall at the weekend.
A stunning 23rd-minute goal from Kieffer Moore set the Latics on their way as his deft backheel nestled in the far corner before Jamal Lowe’s second-half strike put Wigan two up with just over 20 minutes to play. A stylish 99th-minute chip from Michael Jacobs added the gloss to a stunning win for the away side, putting them level on points with 21st-placed Middlesbrough.
However, what helped Wigan to keep the Royals at bay was a stunning triple-save by David Marshall to first keep out Charlie Adam’s low effort before he twice denied Sam Baldock from close range.
