Bradley Johnson has been looking back on one of his memorable Leeds United goals on Instagram, with the Blackburn Rovers midfielder in a reminiscent mood.

Leeds was Johnson’s home between 2008 and 2011, with the midfielder part of the squad that helped the Whites win promotion out of League One in 2009/10.

Over the course of his Leeds career Johnson scored some memorable goals, including a thunderous strike against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

However, on Instagram, the current Blackburn man has been looking back on a different goal, sharing footage of a crashing volley from the 2007/08 season.

Seb Carole’s fine work on the right tees him up, with Johnson meeting a cross from the right with a volley that flies into the back of the Gillingham net:

The goal came at a time when Leeds were trailing Gillingham on the final day of the season, with Johnson pulling Gary McAllister’s side level before Tresor Kandol won the game in the 88th minute.

At that point of the season, Leeds were heading for the play-offs after falling short in the automatic promotion race due to a 15-point deduction ahead of the season.

Eventually, the Whites would lose to Doncaster Rovers in the play-off final.

The Verdict

Johnson has a wonderful technique and throughout his career he’s scored some really good goals.

His strike for Leeds against Arsenal is a standout, but, in truth, this one is right up there with the very best.

The goal didn’t mean much in terms of promotion, but the class of the strike deserves the airtime it gets.
