Bradford City will be bitterly disappointed with their narrow failure to win promotion for the second consecutive season.

In both of the last two seasons, the Bantams have seen their hopes of playing Championship football dashed by Millwall.

This season, it was even harder for Bradford fans to take after they lost in the League One play-off final.

Consigned to another year of third tier football, Bradford City will now start to rebuild their squad and improve their options ahead of another promotion push.

Reinforcements might be necessary all over the pitch, including in the defensive ranks.

James Meredith is off to Millwall, Stephen Darby is leaving on a free and Rory McArdle is reportedly heading to Scunthorpe United.

Bradford need a new centre back to fill McArdle's void and they should be scouring the free agent market.

That could lead the Bantams to Mike Williamson, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mike Williamson spent most of last season out injured so probably needs to drop down a division to get his career back on track.

The 33-year-old boasts vast experience of the top two divisions, having represented the likes of Watford, Newcastle and Wolves during his career.

This experience would make the veteran centre half an ideal replacement for McArdle.

Also standing at 6'4'', Williamson has all the physical attributes to thrive in League One and help Bradford shore up their defence for another promotion push.

On a free transfer, this could be a very good piece of business for Bradford.
