Bradford City are facing the prospect of action from the FA following an incident that occurred during their 3-1 win over Peterborough United two weeks ago at Valley Parade.

After scoring their third goal, a number of fans entered the field to celebrate with the players, something that has been punished by the governing body before.

Speaking in a statement on the club’s official website, club ambassador Roger Owen, who is heading up the investigation:

“We are disappointed to say the say the least that we are facing another potential charge from the governing body.

“We refuse to tolerate this kind of behaviour and it is hugely disappointing we find ourselves in this position once again.”

The Bantams are badly struggling at the bottom of League One, currently sat rock bottom of the table and six points from safety with just eight games left to play.

Last weekend saw them suffer a dramatic defeat to fellow relegation candidates Oxford United, conceding in the final seconds of the match.

The verdict

I think common sense is needed in situations like this.

The players on the pitch were clearly never at risk and it was simply a case of exuberant fans celebrating a late goal.

Of course, more needs to be done to protect players, but I fail to see how this will help.
