Bradford City have announced the signing of midfielder Adam Clayton from League Two rivals Doncaster Rovers.

Having previously turned out for the likes of Leeds, Huddersfield, Middlesbrough and Birmingham throghout his career, Clayton then joined Doncaster back in the 2022 January transfer window.

The midfielder went on to make 35 appearances in all competitions for Doncaster, though he was unable to prevent them suffering relegation to League Two at the end of last season.

But with his contract at the Keepmoat Stadium having been due to expire at the end of this season, the 34-year-old has now completed a move elsewhere in the fourth-tier.

It has been confirmed that Clayton has now joined Bradford City on a free transfer from Doncaster, with the midfielder signing a contract at Valley Parade until the end of the current campaign.

Having completed his move to Bradford, Clayton has become the Bantams fifth signing of the January transfer window.

Centre back Ciaran Kelly has joined already joined on a permanent deal from Irish side Bohemians, while wingers Thierry Nevers and Dara Costelloe, as well as left-back Tolaji Bola, have arrived on loan from West Ham, Burnley and Rotherham respectively.

The Verdict

This does look as though it could be a useful signing for Bradford City to make.

The addition of Clayton brings some useful experience to this Bantams side, as well as some extra depth in the centre of midfield that could certainly be helpful to them.

As a result, this may be a boost to their hopes of claiming promotion this season, especially given they are bringing him in from a league rival.

Even if it doesn't work out massively, this is a free transfer on a short term deal, meaning there is not a great deal of investment in it, which does at least reduce the financial risk of this deal.
