Bradford City closing in on deal to sign 28-year-old in transfer coup

Bradford City have agreed a deal to sign Australian international Ryan McGowan from UAE side Al-Sharjah according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie on Twitter.

The 28-year-old is set to arrive in Yorkshire today, before having a medical at Valley Parade on Friday according to Downie’s sources.

Born in Adelaide, the midfielder has spent time in the United Kingdom before with Hearts, Ayr, Partick and Dundee, as well as enjoying spells with several clubs in China.

A seasoned international, McGowan will hope a switch to English football will provide his chances of securing a call-up to the World Cup in Russia this summer a boost, and will be a welcome addition to Stuart McCall’s promotion chasing side.

The Verdict

McGowan is an extremely experienced player currently at the height of his powers, and securing his signature will mark a serious statement of intent at Valley Parade.

The Bantams have been in poor form over the past week or so, and a new player could be the boost the squad needs ahead of a tough run of games in the second half of the campaign.

McGowan can certainly make a difference, and if McCall can get the deal over the line, his promotion chances will certainly be enhanced.
