Stuart McCall has admitted that Billy Sharp would prove too costly for Bradford City this month, with the Valley Parade boss ruling out a move for the Sheffield United captain, as reported by West Yorkshire Sport.

The Bradford boss was questioned about the possibility of the Bantams making a move for Sharp this transfer window, but McCall was adamant that the striker would cost too much money, dismissing any possibility of a switch across Yorkshire.

Sharp is enjoying a successful second spell with Sheffield United, with the striker amongst the goals on a regular basis at Bramall Lane.

The 31-year-old scored 30 goals in Sky Bet League One last season to fire Chris Wilder’s side to promotion, before making a strong impact on the club’s return to the Championship.

Sharp has bagged eight goals on his return to the second-tier, forming an excellent partnership with Leon Clarke in attack, with the duo firing the Blades into serious top-six contention.

However, Wilder has left Sharp as an unused substitute in Sheffield United’s last three Championship fixtures, with Clayton Donaldson and James Wilson preferred ahead of the club captain.

Bradford currently sit fifth in the League One table, looking to secure a second-tier return.

The Verdict

It would be some coup for Bradford to sign a player of Sharp’s calibre, but as McCall mentions, a move is probably out of the club’s reach.

Sharp has found himself cast aside recently at Bramall Lane, but as he has shown already this season, he is capable of scoring big goals in big games, and Wilder will want to keep him around, until the summer at the very least.
