Bradford City manager Gary Bowyer has provided an update on the fitness of his squad ahead of their meeting with Northampton Town on Saturday and revealed that summer signing Jamie Devitt has suffered an injury setback.

The 29-year-old was substituted after 17 minutes of the Bantam’s midweek EFL Trophy fixture against Bolton after picking up a hamstring injury.

According to BBC West Yorkshire Sport, Devitt, who joined on loan from Blackpool this summer, has undergone a scan and will miss at least two weeks.

Speaking at a press conference, Bowyer confirmed the injury to the midfielder.

According to the official Twitter account, he said: “We have had a setback with Jamie Devitt and are awaiting a medical report after he went down on Tuesday night.”

There was some good news for Bradford fans, however, as Bowyer indicated that a number of injured players were on their way back to fitness.

He said: “Shay McCartan has come back into full training over the last seven days. And Adam Henley will join in, again, on Monday.”

Bradford have made a solid start to life in League Two after they were relegated last season.

Bowyer’s side have won twice and currently sit 12th in the league, just two points off the top-six.

The Verdict

The injury to Devitt is a blow for the Bantams and fans of the club will likely be holding their breath for further news on his fitness.

Despite arriving less than a fortnight ago, the 29-year-old has featured three times for Bradford and looked an exciting addition.

He has a great record in League Two and has been particularly impressive for Carlisle United over the past two years, adding 11 goals and eight assists last season and 11 goals and four assists in the 2017/18 campaign.
