Bradford City have confirmed the signing of midfielder Chris Taylor on an initial two-month deal, following lengthy discussions with the EFL.

The midfielder was originally due to sign for the club in the summer but the 32-year-old’s move was blocked by the EFL due to a registration issue, as Taylor had made an appearance for Barrow AFC already.

The registration hiccup in question came when Taylor featured for Barrow when they played in the FA Lancashire Cup, but the Bantams have confirmed they will face no further action, clearing him to play in tomorrow’s Football League Trophy tie against Rochdale.

Taylor’s contract is short-term and will see him be a Bradford player up until the middle of January before the club assess whether to offer a longer-term deal after that.

The Bantams currently sit in second place on goal difference, narrowly above the play-off places by just one goal, and are definitely looking for automatic promotion straight back to the third tier. Taylor is clearly part of Gary Bowyer’s plans at Bradford having persisted with this signing after being rebuffed by the EFL previously.

Speaking to the club’s official site after the signing was announced, Taylor had this to say on his eventual move: "After one of the strangest periods in my life, I am delighted and over the moon to finally be a Bradford City player.

"I am looking to play my part in what will hopefully be a special season for the club.

"I honestly cannot wait to pull on the shirt and get going!"

The Verdict

Having finally got the move over the line, Taylor will obviously be delighted that he is a Bradford City player after all this time and will be eager to repay Bowyer’s strong faith in him.

Taylor adds more experience to a side desperate to return back to League One at the first time of asking and his arrival could prove very important over the coming months with a hectic schedule ahead.
