Bradford City have announced the signing of striker Caolan Lavery after he departed Walsall at end of last season, as their ninth summer recruit.

The frontman has played in both League One and Two in his career, winning promotion from both. This experience is something Bradford will have monitored as they are hopeful of a return to the third tier.

He has spent the last two seasons in West Midlands with Walsall, scoring 17 goals over his 80 appearances at the Banks' Stadium.

Lavery, 28, has been a bit of a journeyman in his career, starting at Sheffield Wednesday and has had years full of loans as he has ventured to Southend United, Plymouth Argyle, Chesterfield and Portsmouth.

The Bantams' manager Derek Adams had this to say as he snapped up his ninth summer signing with this quote via the official club website : "We are delighted to be welcoming Caolan to our ranks as we add depth to our forward development."

He added, "Caolan possesses traits which will benefit us as a squad, and complement what we currently have very well."

The 28-year-old said in a club interview “I am buzzing to be here. As soon as I heard there was interest from Bradford City, I was straight in the car and down the motorway to get here."

“Everyone knows this is a great club with brilliant support, and the manager also had huge appeal for me. The success he enjoyed last season and his overall track record speaks for itself."

The Verdict

This transfer is at the right time for Caolan Lavery, as he is starting to hit the peak of his career after his spell with Walsall.

This is Bradford City's third recognized striker they have signed this summer, with the other two being Lee Angol and Andy Cook, meaning the signing is not too risky. He will be a good asset and should kick on well at Valley Parade.
