Barnsley had promotion to the Championship confirmed on Tuesday evening, after both Portsmouth and Sunderland both dropped valuable points in the promotion race.
The Tykes has been hugely impressive in this year’s campaign, and under Daniel Stendel, it looked difficult to see many teams stopping them making an immediate return to the second tier of English football.
One player that stood out in the first-half of their promotion-winning campaign was Brad Potts, who looked like a man on a mission to fire them back into the Championship.
The 24-year-old moved to Preston North End in January’s transfer window though, and has since gone on to make ten appearances for the Lilywhites.
Potts took to Twitter on Wednesday to pass on his best wishes to Barnsley following their promotion, and was full of praise for the Tykes for their achievements this season.
Congratulations to everyone at @BarnsleyFC on promotion back to the Championship.. What a set of lads who deserve everything they get after an unbelievable season????????????????. Was a pleasure to to be a part of, even if it was just till January???? #442 #YouSuperRedsss ???????? https://t.co/Q5d8jw6Xz1

Potts could well come up against his former side next season, with Preston likely to be challenging for a top six finish under Alex Neil.
The midfielder will be hoping to recapture some of the form he had previously shown with Barnsley, with Potts having six goals to his name for the Tykes.
He’ll be hoping to improve on his goal tally with Preston next season, with the former Blackpool man only having two goals to his name since signing in January’s transfer window.
It’ll be interesting to see the reception he gets when he returns to Oakwell.
Potts was a key player for Barnsley in his time with the club, and I thought he could have given it one more season with Daniel Stendel’s side, especially given they were challenging for promotion.
It’s good to see him passing on his congratulations to his former club though.
