Charlton Athletic take on Blackpool this week in Sky Bet League One as they face a long trip north as a run of Saturday-Tuesday games truly gets underway.

A win over Wigan was recorded at the weekend and now matches against Blackpool, Northampton, Oxford United and Portsmouth await between now and the end of October.

How much Marcus Maddison features in them, though, remains to be seen with the recent arrival picking up an injury and being ruled out for at least the game against the Tangerines tomorrow.

Lee Bowyer hopes, though, that he could be fit for the clash with Northampton, though time will tell before the weekend.

Quoted by the South London Press, the Addicks boss said:

“Hopefully he will be back in and around it by next weekend.

“It was a freak thing. He has gone for a shot and just connected funny with the ball. He overstretched his foot.

“It’s not too bad. I’m hoping he’ll be back training by the end of the week maybe. Tomorrow will definitely be too soon and maybe the weekend might be a little too soon."

The Verdict

Maddison featured briefly in the 0-0 draw with Sunderland before the international break but was not in the squad for the win over Wigan on Saturday.

That looks set to be the case for tomorrow's trip to Blackpool and then we'll just have to see if Northampton comes too soon for him.

It doesn't sound a massive injury, of course, but with so many games coming up even the slightest knock can have you missing two or three matches in rather short order.
