Quoted by the BBC, Lee Bowyer has revealed that all but three of his players have decided to return to Charlton Athletic training as preparations for the season to restart continue.

Clubs in the top two tiers of the country are getting back up and running and it looks as though there is clear intention for them to play out this season on the pitch.

That's a relief for Charlton fans, of course, who saw their team drop into the relegation just before the brakes were put on this campaign in March.

The players will be itching to get themselves out of trouble but Bowyer has revealed that a trio of players have decided that they won't return just yet given the current situation.

He revealed:

"I met the players on Saturday before we'd done our first test and I asked them all individually 'it's your choice, do you want to come back and play the remainder of the season?'

"I've asked every single player and I said 'there's no pressure, it's your choice'.

"All but three have said yes, so that's a good number for me.

"I understand everyone has got different circumstances, of course I'd rather everybody came back because the more players you've got, the bigger squad you've got and the more chance of winning games, but that isn't the case and we'll have to adapt.

"I'm sure there's other players at other teams that have also said 'no'."

The Verdict

Every side would like all of their players to return but every player also has different circumstances to consider that have greater importance than football.

If a footballer feels as though the risk is too great, currently, to themselves or their family their within in their right to opt out of training and three Charlton players have taken that course of action.

Bowyer, meanwhile, will be looking for those that have returned to get back up to speed as quickly as they can.
