Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has laid down an ultimatum to the club's new board with regards to his contract situation.

Bowyer, who has yet to be offered a long-term deal at The Valley, says he wants his contract sorted this weekend, with his agent due to be in attendance for the West Brom clash or they risk real instability at the club.

“I want to put it to bed. Everyone knows I want to be at the club," he said in an interview with South London Press.

"I want Matt and my agent Rob Segal – who is coming to the West Brom home game tomorrow – to put a contract together this weekend.

"There is no reason why they can’t. They are both in the same place. Matt has told me that is what they will do.

"Stability going forward is the most important thing."

QUIZ: Can you remember Charlton’s last 15 January deals?

Bowyer's time at The Valley has been a huge success so far, helping them earn a return to the Championship last season, but it has not been without its turbulence.

Back in the summer it was announced that he would be leaving the club after the former owners and him were unable to agree to terms on a new deal.

However, shortly afterwards it was revealed that an extension had been agreed, although it is now clear that the deal was not entirely to Bowyer's liking.

The verdict

This is a no brainer for the board, whichever way you look at it.

Bowyer has proven himself to be an excellent manager already and he is only going to get better. So give him the bumper new deal he deserves and the club can afford.

He clearly has no intentions of leaving a side he is hugely fond of. The points he make regarding transfers are also incredibly pertinent, giving how crucial this window is likely to be to the Addicks.
