Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has confirmed that he will see none of the money gained from Everton's sale of winger Ademola Lookman this summer.

Having been sold to the Toffees back in January 2017, the London Evening Standard reported that the Addicks stood to make as much as £2.3million through sell-on clauses from his £16million move to RB Leipzig, but Bowyer has revealed that it will not be reinvested in the first-team.

“We won’t see any of the money gained from Ademola Lookman’s move to Leipzig,” he told his pre-match press conference on Thursday, reported by the club's official Twitter account.

Lookman graduated through the esteemed Charlton youth system in 2015, going on to make 49 appearances, score 12 goals and assist three more.

He was snapped up by Everton in 2017 for a fee of just under £8million, making 36 Premier League appearances since and scoring once.

The percentage of that fee received by the Toffees could have been a big help for Charlton this summer as they prepare for life back in the Championship.

Bowyer has brought in seven new faces so far as they prepare for their opening game against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday.

The verdict

Once again this reflects very poorly on the club's owners.

Yes,  £8million was a brilliant deal at the time, but it is no excuse for not offering at least some of the money to Bowyer to continue building a Championship standard side.

It would have been interesting to see what the club would have done with that £2.3million in the final week of the transfer window.
