Quoted by the South London Press, Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has sought to address claims being made in the national media that there is a £750k compensation clause that, if paid, would allow another club to try and take him as manager.

Charlton are in the midst of an intense relegation battle in the Sky Bet Championship and are surrounded by several clubs meaning, with three games to go, it's anyone's guess as to who goes down.

Up next, a huge game for the Addicks against Birmingham City, with the Blues being sucked into the vortex and looking rudderless at the moment.

Indeed, Bowyer has been linked with going there as manager but he's sought to play that down, as well as discuss speculation over a clause concerning an exit:

“We’ve got three games to go and people are talking about me leaving.

“I’ve been linked to Birmingham because I’ve played there. Of course, I’m going to be linked there.

“But for things like that to be coming out [a compensation figure], that’s wrong.

“Maybe because we are playing Birmingham it is people trying to disrupt our camp. Birmingham are only three points above us. If we’d won at the weekend then we’d have been above them.

“Are people trying to disrupt the camp? There is no reason to do that. I just hope this is not coming out from our camp."

The Verdict

This will be positive enough news for Charlton fans to hear but until they are safe from the drop this season then they'll probably try not to get their hopes up with their manager.

Things are still in their hands ahead of their game with the Blues and a win at St Andrew's would be massive.

Indeed, with things so tightly packed down there, the complexion changes after each set of fixtures so there's still so much to play for.
