Reading manager Mark Bowen has said he's 'more concerned with what's happening on the pitch', when asked about his transfer plans on Saturday.

Millwall welcomed the Royals on Saturday. Two clubs who've both appointed new managers this season, and two managers who've impressed in their reigns so far.

But it was the home side who claimed a comfortable 2-0 win on Saturday, with goals in the second-half from Matt Smith and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson taking Millwall up to 7th, and condemning Reading to their first defeat in nine in all competitions.

Speaking to Berkshire Live after the defeat, Bowen had this to say when asked about his transfer plans this month:

"I’m waiting and I’m seeing and we’re looking at things. But I’m more concerned now with what happened on the pitch and what could happen on Wednesday against Forest”.

Reading are yet to be linked with anyone this transfer window, but Bowen has been busy in in the contracts department - Tyler Blackett is in negotiations with the club to sign a new deal, whilst Bowen himself has been handed a contract extension at the club, keeping him there until the end of next season.

Elsewhere, Josh Barrett has left the club, and Vito Mannone looks set for the exit this month too.

The verdict

Reading have been gradually getting better under Bowen, but can they last the rest of the season on the same players they have now?

Bowen is definitely getting the best out of them, but they're inevitably going to tire. There's still time to make a couple of signings, but Bowen will need to move fast to get the best deals.
