Stockley has made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries, having made his debut aged 15 as a substitute during a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Northampton Town in October 2009; his two goals so far for the South Coast club came in the same competition against Hereford United in August 2011.

The 20-year-old was subsequently loaned to Accrington Stanley, where he scored three times in 10 matches, before grabbing 13 strikes in 29 games for Woking during a season-long loan in 2012-13; less successful were temporary stints with Leyton Orient and Torquay United which saw him find the net on only two occasions.

He becomes the ninth signing made by Cambridge since they won promotion back to the Football League in May via the Conference Premier play-offs, and will be available tomorrow afternoon when Richard Money’s men take on League Two leaders Morecambe.
