Barnsley could be set for competition in their pursuit of Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull.

The Reds are interested in signing the 19-year-old midfield starlet, but according to the Mail on Sunday, Premier League Bournemouth are now interested in bringing the youngster to the Vitality.

Turnbull has been a revelation since jumping into the first-team picture for Motherwell, and his goals and overall performances last season have attracted a host of admiring glances, including those from Glasgow giants, Celtic.

However, Bournemouth's interest could no put a spanner in the works for all clubs interested in Turnbull, with Premier League money and wages something which could be the difference maker in any deal.

Indeed, Eddie Howe's reputation for developing young players and giving them a chance in the first XI might also appeal to Turnbull, who will be suitably impressed by the likes of David Brooks and Lewis Cook moving to the south coast club and impressing.

Motherwell themselves will be seeking the best possible deal for Turnbull, and could well see the Cherries as their best bet of eaking out as much money as possible for the youngster if he is to move on.

The Verdict

Well, doesn't this just ruin the plans for Barnsley if it's concrete interest?

There's no way Turnbull is going to turn down a move to someone like Bournemouth if they come knocking, not a chance.

Barnsley are a good club, and well run, but can they compete with the likes of Eddie Howe's men? Put simply, no they can't.
