AFC Bournemouth are reportedly keen on signing Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Dillon Phillips according to Football Insider.

The Cherries have recently sold Aaron Ramsdale to Premier League side Sheffield United, and will be looking to find an adequate replacement at the earliest of opportunities.

Bournemouth were relegated into the Championship last season under the management of Eddie Howe, and new boss Jason Tindall will be eager to guide his side back into the top-flight at the first time of asking.

It seems as though the Cherries have been impressed with what they have seen from Phillips, with the Addicks shot-stopper catching the eye with a number of impressive performances last term in the second-tier.

Phillips made 47 appearances in total for Lee Bowyer's side, and won them vital points at crucial stages, but his efforts weren't quite enough as Charlton were relegated into League One on the final day of the season after a heavy defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road.

Bournemouth host Blackburn Rovers in their first league match of the 2020/21 season, and they'll be eager to get off to a winning start this term.

The Verdict:

This is a smart move by Bournemouth.

They need a goalkeeper that has experience of playing to a high standard in the Championship, and Phillips certainly fits that description.

Lee Bowyer has already admitted that Phillips will be second-choice goalkeeper this season after turning down a new contract with the club, so it seems as though his days at The Valley are numbered.

Bournemouth could be in line to make one of the signings of the season if they can land his signature for a relatively small fee before the new season gets under way this weekend.
