Queens Park Rangers have extended the contracts of both Ryan Manning and Bright Osayi-Samuel.

The pair were in the final months of their contracts in West London, but the club announced yesterday that they've exercised the option to extend their contracts until the summer of 2021.

In this latest FLW Six-Pointer, we assess the importance of both extending their stays at QPR:

How good has Manning been this season?

He's been excellent. He started the season on-fire and became one of QPR's most creative outlets, but he tired towards Christmas, and saw himself on the bench a bit more.

But he came back into the starting line-up v Stoke City last weekend and looked as good as he ever has done on the left-side of defence, and looks set for a strong finish to the campaign.

How good has Osayi-Samuel been this season?

Osayi-Samuel has been equally as good, if not better. It took him a few weeks to get into Mark Warburton's starting line-up but now he's one of the first names on the team-sheet, and one of QPR's best finishers with five Championship goals to his name this season.

How important will they be next season?

Hugely. Both players are big parts of the way that QPR play and keeping them will prove as good as two new signings for QPR.

Warburton loves to play fast and attacking football, and both Manning and Osayi-Samuel complement that style.

Will it prompt other players to stay past the summer?

Hopefully. A lot of players will and could be leaving in the summer - the likes of Ebere Eze is contracted to the club but has been linked away.

Maybe seeing the club's other top-players committing their short-term future to the club will prompt the likes of Eze and others to do the same, and to try and achieve something unthinkable with QPR next season.

Could QPR still sell them in the summer?

Yes, I think so. Both Manning and Osayi-Samuel have been monitored by Premier League clubs this season, and both could still depart this summer - Manning was a target of both Southampton and Newcastle, whilst Osayi-Samuel was being monitored by Southampton and Burnley.

If the right offer comes along then the player is likely going to want to move, and the club is likely to accept any sort of offer.

Have QPR extended their contracts so that they can sell for a fee in the summer?

Unfortunately, I think these contract extensions are in preparation for QPR to sell in the summer.

Both were set for release and both have been targets of Premier League clubs. With QPR looking set for a lowly finish in the Championship, a lot of players could look for the door come summer time.

Manning, Osayi-Samuel and the club themself may have come together for these extensions as part of a deal - the club can't afford to let two good players go for free in the summer, and as a sort of payback for employing them, both parties have extended their stays so that QPR can sell for a fee in the summer.
