Russell Slade's side completed a deal to sign Millwall defender Scott Malone today, but he could of been set for a sensational move to Dortmund.

The 23-year-old has signed a deal which will keep him at the Cardiff City Stadium until June 2017.

Speaking to the Cardiff official site, Malone said: “With my contract soon to expire at Millwall, I was looking for a new challenge; a few clubs were interested, but when I heard Cardiff City was one of them it was an easy decision to make.

“The Manager didn’t need to persuade me at all into making this decision, I wanted to come and be part of his plans. I’m very happy to be here and eager to get started."

Slade was delighted with the capture of the former Millwall defender, and said to Wales Online:

"Several other clubs were in for Scott.

"Borussia Dortmund made strong enquiries about him, while there were other Championship clubs keen.

"We are delighted Scott has signed. He is 6ft 2ins tall, athletic, will give us a lot going forward and defensively. He is a natural left footed who has previously scored five goals in one season.

"Birmingham and Brighton were other Championship clubs in for Malone.

"The arrival of Malone adds competition for Declan John and Fabio and Slade made it clear he is looking for them to fight for the place."

Meanwhile, Cardiff City have had a bid accepted for Rotherham United striker Alex Revell, as reported on FLW.

Revell, 31, is well known by Cardiff City managerRussell Slade as they worked together at both Brighton andLeyton Orient in recent seasons.
