Sky Bet Championship club Middlesbrough are said to be interested in Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow as Garry Monk eyes a move for the 26-year-old, reported by reliable journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter

Monk is hoping to replace duo Brad Guzan and Victor Valdes; the former joining Atalanta in America whilst the latter had his contract terminated by mutual consent last month.

Darlow was a vital member of Rafa Benitez's Newcastle squad that earned the Championship title last term after making 34 league appearances for the Magpies and a further two in the EFL Cup. Despite his popularity on Tyneside, the Magpies are being linked with moves for the likes of Joe Hart, so Darlow could be facing an exit.

Prior to his switch to Tyneside in the summer of 2015, the Northampton-born 'keeper was plying his trade for Nottingham Forest in the Championship having risen through the ranks at the City Ground.

Garry Monk's current goalkeeping ranks include veteran Dimitrios Konstantopoulos whose deal at Riverside doesn't expire until 2018 but the boss is yet to make a senior addition to his first-team since being appointed manager.
