Sky Bet Championship side Middlesbrough are hoping to arrange a pre-season friendly with La Liga’s Villareal, reports Diario AS.
According to the Spanish newspaper, Villareal are in talks with two English sides in the hopes of finalising a tour of the UK, with a trip to Swansea City already confirmed.
It is believed that the two teams are Premier League champions Manchester City and ‘Boro. Ideally the Spanish side, who finished sixth in La Liga last season, will be able to arrange to play both games during their stay.
If the match is confirmed, it will be the Teessiders first game of the season at the Riverside Stadium. They have already confirmed a July 26 date with Rochdale at Spotland Stadium, quickly followed by another away trip to Hartlepool’s Victoria Park on July 31.
