Plenty of Middlesbrough supporters have been reacting to footage emerging of Martin Braithwaite failing to perform a skill move during his reveal as a new signing for Barcelona.

Braithwaite left Middlesbrough on a permanent deal only in the summer transfer window, joining Leganes following a loan spell with the Spanish club during the second half of last season – and he has gone onto perform well for the La Liga side scoring six goals in 24 league appearances.

That form has prompted Spanish giants Barcelona to make a move for the 28-year-old, with the club having been granted permission to sign the forward outside of the transfer window as a replacement for the injured Ousmane Dembele – and Braithwaite will now be set to link up with the likes of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez.

QUIZ: Can you name these 15 Middlesbrough players by looking at their previous clubs?

Middlesbrough inserted a sell on clause into the deal that took the forward to Leganes on a permanent move last summer, and that clause has now seen Jonathan Woodgate’s side collect a reported fee of around £2million for the 28-year-old, which will provide an unexpected bonus to the club’s finances.

That is good business for Middlesbrough, especially considering that Braithwaite had largely failed to really manage to nail down a regular place in their starting line-up during his time at the Riverside, which saw him sent out on loan spells to Bordeaux and Leganes before his permanent departure.

The forward arguably never really suited the style of play that Middlesbrough deployed under Tony Pulis, with the 28-year-old more used to playing in more attack minded possession-based sides, which meant he never really managed to show his full ability at the Riverside.

Barcelona will be hoping that Braithwaite can thrive with their more attack minded philosophy and provide some suitable back up for their other attacking players during the rest of the campaign, with the forward unlikely to be a starter when everyone is fit.

Things have not got off to the best of starts for him though with Barcelona, after footage emerged of him failing to perform a piece of skill during his unveiling – and plenty of Middlesbrough fans have taken to the Middlesbrough football club group on Facebook to offer their reactions to the footage.

Here then, we take a look at what Middlesbrough fans have been saying about Braithwaite on social media…

Sam Dumore: "He’s had a nightmare there."

Clark Davis: "You never lose what you never had."

Andrew Bryant: "How funny, can’t even do a trick. Bet the Barcelona fans are buzzing."

Lewis Dawson: "Imagine running down the wing and Messi on one side, Griezmann on the other and producing this."

Colin Fryett: "Now that's what we call skill."
