Sunderland have endured a mixed season so far and it appears as though they are set for another year in League One.

Phil Parkinson's side are currently seventh in the table and it has been widely reported in the media that the third tier will be stopped, meaning the Black Cats will miss out on promotion.

That will condemn the Wearside outfit to a third successive season at this level after Jack Ross couldn't take the team up last year, with Charlton beating Sunderland in the play-off final.

Even though they lost in heartbreaking fashion at Wembley, ultimately it was a season to forget as the team were expected to go up. Yet, the fact the club appear to be worse off now suggests Ross didn't do as bad a job as some initially thought.
