An exciting season awaits for Barnsley with the Tykes heading into the second-tier following an impressive promotion from League One.

Daniel Stendel arrived at Oakwell following their 2018 relegation from the Championship but the German turned them around with impressive speed, securing what was eventually a comfortable promotion.

Having hopped between the leagues over the past few years, there is a genuine feeling that they might now be able to establish themselves in the second-tier and slowly work towards promotion.

But the summer transfer window will be crucial and Stendel will no doubt be looking to strengthen but also looking to hold onto some star names.

So it is set to be a pretty busy club over the next couple of months, but what are the latest stories?

Here is a round-up of the weekend's biggest talking points...

Boost in midfielder hunt

One target that the club have acquired is Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull but they are not alone in their interest.

However, a boost was received over the weekend when it was reported by the Scottish Sun that Celtic could withdraw their interest in him with Neil Lennon apparently unhappy that details of a previous bid had been made public.

Bristol City are still lurking but that would at least take one big rival out of the way.

Seven-figure winger set to sign

According to Gloucestershire Live, Derby winger Luke Thomas is set to plump for a £1.2million move to Oakwell this summer, turning down the option of Bristol City.

Thomas impressed whilst out on loan with Coventry City in League One last season and the Rams are now reportedly ready to cash in.

Highly-rated defender incoming

The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that a deal had been agreed for the signing of £600,000 defender Manuel Maranda.

The 21-year-old centre-back will move from Austrian side FC Wacker and will sign a four-year deal at Oakwell in the summer after being impressed by Stendel.
