Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood will turn down an offer from Huddersfield Town in favour of a new deal at Hillsborough, it has been reported.

Huddersfield, who won just three games all season as they were relegated after two terms in the Premier League this campaign, had been linked with a move for Westwood, and having announced the departure of first choice goalkeeper Jonas Lossl in The Terriers' released and retained list, they would have been hoping to secure a deal for Westwood.

That however now appears less likely to happen, after The Daily Mail reported that Westwood is likely to turn down a move to Huddersfield, in favour of signing an extended contract with Sheffield Wednesday.

Westwood has made a total of 164 appearances for The Owls, with all of his 20 league appearances for the club this season coming following the sacking of Jos Luhukay and appointment of Steve Bruce as manager.

The verdict

This is a big boost for Sheffield Wednesday.

Westwood is a popular and important figure around Hillsborough, and his contribution to the upturn in Wednesday's form under Bruce has been noticeable.

Holding off a club coming down from the Premier League to keep Westwood may also be seen as a feather in the cap of Sheffield Wednesday, as they look to stake their own for a place in the top flight next season.
