Sheffield United could be set for a boost in their pursuit of midfielder Ryan Leonard.

According to Chris Phillips of the Southend Echo, Leonard has handed in a transfer request, and was left out of the squad for the Southend friendly earlier on today.

The Blades have been looking to sign the midfielder all summer, with manager Chris Wilder a keen admirer of the impressive play-maker. However, after seeing initial interest and bids knocked back, Wilder could now be encouraged to try and speed up a deal for Leonard, with the player seemingly making it clear he wants to leave.

However, thus far the Blades have yet to offer what Southend value the player at, and manager Phil Brown has confirmed that the club is aware of the situation, but they do not want to sell and have not received a bid they feel is befitting of his talent.

Chris Wilder and the Blades now though will surely test the water further as both the club and player seem to want to force through a move, although Wilder will not hang around, as he has made it clear all summer he will not pay over the odds for players.

Sheffield United fans, what do you think to this? Would you go all out for Leonard? Let us know!
